Celebrating 40 years of Spain's EU accession at the Committee of Regions

Over the past four decades, Navarre, Spain, the EU, and the world have changed dramatically, yet we continue to participate and collaborate on a shared project across the Old Continent from which we have benefited significantly. During this meeting, we were able to convey to the President of the Committee of the Regions, Ms. Kata Tüttő, the importance of the LIFE Program in the Autonomous Community of Navarre and the European funds allocated to that program.

Specifically, as part of the fight against climate change and efforts to increase resilience to it, all the actions outlined in our Roadmap have been implemented.

Navarre has completed a total of 53 specific actions to adapt sectoral policies to the reality of climate change, within the framework of the European LIFE NAdapta project—the first strategy of its kind developed in a European region.

The LIFE NAdapta project has addressed multiple areas, including the promotion of local climate actions, research on the impact of climate change on health, the improvement of regenerative agriculture, sustainable forest management, integrated water cycle management and flood prevention, as well as energy transition projects in urban regeneration.

These initiatives and pilot projects have been instrumental in helping Navarra adapt to climate change. Together with the passage of the Regional Law on Climate Change and Energy Transition in March 2022, the EU’s contribution has made it possible to take the first steps on a path that requires new tools to transform the environment and strike a balance between sustainability and development.
